Site owners should really pay attention to what is written about their sites on SideWiki. There are now tools that can do this automatically:

This is seriously scary - I'm wondering if Google knows who pays fro those ads it's considering rendering worthless?

Maybe it's time to drive traffic without PPC and Google.
Thanks for an educational post - I've shared it across Facebook.

Hey Jeff! Good thing you're letting people know about this. It's weird. On one hand, Google "gets" Social Media (GFC and now Google Wave could be huge!) but this is going to be a case of "biting the hand that feeds you."

I wrote an article on my blog about it too, from another perspective. The more people understand about the potential effects of this plugin, the less chance there is that we'll shrug it off as just another Google faux-pas. This one needs to die a sudden death, or Google needs to come up with strategies that will change from a perceived (or real!) hijacking of sites and traffic by Google to a truly value-added proposition.

Just get the word out so people talk about it. We cannot take Google down individually, but as a large collective voice we can change Google's mind so they ditch the product or radically change it so people have options to it for control, but then you're gonna have to allocate time and energy to another spinning shinny toy.

WOOOHAAA Now that's how you blast a service! Great post Jeff and really enlightened me to some things I didn't know about SW.

For now I'm using it to post glowing reviews about my competitors but also mentioning I have a product too ;-)

This is an invasion of privacy and could take many of us out of business on the web. Is there any way to stop them from using this program?
