On one hand, Google "gets" Social Media (GFC and now Google Wave could be huge!) but this is going to be a case of "biting the hand that feeds you." I wrote an article on my blog about it too, from another perspective. The more people understand about the potential effects of this plugin, the less chance there is that we'll shrug it off as just another Google faux-pas. This one needs to die a sudden death, or Google needs to come up with strategies that will change from a perceived (or real!) hijacking of sites and traffic by Google to a truly value-added proposition. We cannot take Google down individually, but as a large collective voice we can change Google's mind so they ditch the product or radically change it so people have options to it for control, but then you're gonna have to allocate time and energy to another spinning shinny toy.
