5 Steps on making your blog posts keyword magnets

February 20th, 2009

No fluff here, let’s just get right to the point.

All of my posts are picked up and found in the search engines. The reason they are found there is because I know how to write my blog posts and tag my posts so they get maximum benefit from outside places using proper keyword strategies.

For example, the search engines are one source that love me when I post. I can make a post and see it in Google’s SERPs in about 11 minutes or even less! How long does it take Google to see your new content you post?

Also, people subscribe to my RSS Feed and consume my content on thier own time, which is great and dandy too.

If you want the search engines to love your blog, then you need to make sure you are using these 5 simple steps to making your blog a keyword magnet.

1. Use the Keyword or KeyPhrase you want to be found for in your blog title

2. Make sure you use SEO Title Tags plugin so that your post or page titles are correctly formated to be search engine friendly and also search engine magnets by including the keywords in the description tag. The SEO Title Tag plugin might be one of the most powerful plugins out there. With this plugin, you can create the real title of the post, which also becomes the title showing up in a search engine results pages (serp). Here is a picture showing how it looks in the post creation area and how it ends up looking in the search engines.

3. Include the keywords and keyphrases often in the post or page body of your wordpress blog. Be verbose, write a deep post with a minimum of 300 words and up to 1000 words.

4. Link the most popular keywords or phrases that you want to be found with to a URL associated with those keywords. For example, if I was making this post above about lead generation, then when I wrote the word lead generation, I would have put a link on it like I just did, either linking it to:

  • the exact page URL of the page I am creating
  • a similar post within my site that is using those keywords or themes
  • an external post on another one of my sites using those keywords or themes
  • someone else’s site using those keywords and themes

This makes my link have "anchor text" associate with it. It also tells the search engines "here is a backlink to get used to with keyword evidence telling you what it is about."

5. Use the right tags and categories when writing your pages and posts. Don’t over do it, but using a handful of tags and catagories will get your content found easily in the search engines as well. I found some of my catagories rank much higher in the search results pages than the actual posts do! Make sure your tags and categories use the same keywords you are trying to get ranking for as well.

So, there you have it… 5 Steps on making your blog posts keyword magnets! Put it to use and take action today.
