I am reading more blogs now than ever.

Why?

I want to get better at writing content. Good content, not advertorials to make money, but maybe something I say will… save a life? Give someone hope? Create a stir that makes for positive change in a life somewhere in the world?

I dunno… but I want to reach out and create positive joy and change in people’s lives.

It’s not always about the bottom line and the income.

I was reading Amit Mehta’s blog, Super Affiliate Mindset and his latest post, called, Hot Tips from the PPC Summit - Day one, had a quote in it that stopped me dead in my tracks.

Amit was talking to corporate type people and when asked what he does (he is an affiliate marketer) people kinda pooh poo’ed his profession thinking he works few hours a day, sitting in his PJ’s.

Maybe that is true of Amit?

I dunno. But he talked about the human desire to work to death on projects and how much effort people will go to and at great sacrifice…just to make the boss more money.

The is this the quote:

“It’s amazing how hard people work for so little money, and they’re ok with it?!?”

I agree Amit.

It amazes me, so many people wake up at the crack of dawn, kids asleep, drive an hour to work, do there job well, work hard, then drive back, make dinner, clean up, call a friend or two, check email, watch their favorite show, and hit the sack, all to do it again the next day. Over and over, year after year, decade after decade.

Then, you take that same exact person, and you tell them:

“You can be an entrepreneur! Have at it! The world and the time is all yours for the taking!”

So they quit their job and join the home based solopreneur workforce. They become an affiliate marketer. They become a direct sales promoter. They push MLM products or they focus on adsense sites because they see the money people are making out there.

And then this same person sleeps in, skips meals, works a little, checks email obsessively, spends way too much time on their social media profiles trying to get friends to join their media pages, while navigating youtube videos, and playing solitare. And at the end of the day, spends less time on the phone, talk to less people, and is still waiting for that “big check” to come from the internet lifestyle. They never see the income roll in.

So what happened?

It’s wierd, but people will work harder for someone telling them what to do than they do for themselves, with no one telling them what to do.

With no boss to be accountable to, people can do whatever they want when they work from home. It’s a double blessing and curse at the same time, if people don’t chose to manage their lives and days well.

I see too many failures in the home based business market, namely because most people cannot stand working for themselves.

The bible talks very specifically about hard work. It talks about taking pride in the work of your hands and being diligent with the talents and responsibilities you have. If you manage it well, more will be given.

So, what am I exactly saying here? Well two things I guess.

1. Some people work so dang hard to make a boss rich, but if they became entrepreneurs and worked for themselves, they’d become millionaires with their work ethic.

2. Some people work so dang hard to make a boss rich, but if they became entrepreneurs and worked for themselves, they’d fail at a home based business cause they need to be told what to do all the time and they have no self dicipline or motivation to be consistent and establish systems.

The world needs workers and the world needs entrepreneurs too. One is not greater than the other. Both need each other to survive.

If you are thinking of making the plunge into the online entrepreneur world, ask yourself, “Do I really have what it takes?”

“Can I work as hard for myself as I do for my company that I love, even though they don’t pay me very much?”

Something to think about before you make the leap.

I was at Steve Renner’s training facility tonight.

It was a great meeting. He talked a lot about his IMTrain program. It’s a pretty amazing internet marketing training portal. 100’s of hours of training from all the top internet marketers are in there.

It’s so packed with money making ideas, it would take you years to listen to it all and go through it.

He even has products in there you can re-sell and keep 100% of the profits. All for 1 super low price per month.

But I did not write this to talk about Steve’s IMtrain.

I wanted to tell you what Steve did.

He showed us this media/streaming video site called, www.mogulus.com.

Now, you can have your own LIVE tv station. The cost is very good too.. Zero.

If you have a webcam, you can broadcast yourself, live in real time. You can drop a feed off your DV camera too.

You can chat with your viewers, you can turn on your viewers cameras remotely and show them live via streaming video, or let them ask you a question, then flip back to your camera and answer it.

I am not sure how many people you can have on your live stream, but last year, I paid over $3000 for 3 days of live video streaming hosting. I was eager to find a cheaper solution and I believe I have found it.

Imagine the possibilities?

Steve hosted a live meeting in Minnesota, then, had users log in to watch from all over the USA in real time. He even had people in Australia watching his presentation. People were chatting, having a good time.

Make sure you use a good audio mic too, or the sound might not be so hot if you use the mic on a camera or speak too far away from the mic.

So, you can remotely broadcast your meetings, group functions, seminars, or whatever you can be creative about and be your own video mogul. No more watching recorded videos on YouTube, as this sucker streams live in real time, over a broadband connection.

If you want to show a youtube video during your presentation… you can! Just put it in your storyboard configuration, then call it out when you are ready and your viewers will see youtube video stream live too.

In April, 2006, I bought my first HDTV. It was the Olevia/Syntax LCD HDTV Model # LT37HVS.

It was a good buy at CompUSA here in Minnesota. I remember the day specifically because I also bought my wife a Macbook and myself a Sony Laptop on the same day.

As I rolled it all up to the counter, people were asking me, seriously… “Whoa buddy.. did you win the lottery or something?”

I just smiled. Actually I think I made $15,000 that day, selling products over the net, so I treated myself to some toys.

Well, 22 months later…. my Olevia/Syntax LCD HDTV LT37HVS died.

I did some research online to see what happens when an HDTV dies and if there is a quick fix…there is no quick fix. Horror stories fill the net with people having dead HDTVs.

I was shocked to see many people posting on the review boards how they bought the same TV as me and 14, 16, 18 months later…. the “BLACK SCREEN” appeared.

Seeing there was no immediate or quick fix, I called up CompUSA to see what my warranty would be. Since they all went out of business up here in the Twin Cities… I was thinking I would be SOL.  But I was not!

CompUSA told me I could take another model for free, (which was not a good one) or take $699.99 check and do with it what I wanted (I bought the TV for $1200).

I did some research on their TV they were offering. I decided to take the money and go and get a new HDTV.

So I checked around.

Here is what I learned.

Alot of HDTVs go to a blackscreen right after their warranty expires. It’s pretty bad actually and a lot of owners are ticked off, understandably.

Here is the solution for the future HDTV buyers.

Buy your new HDTV from Walmart or Sam’s club.

Why?

Their return policy on HDTVs is the best. If your TV breaks, all you need to do, even if it is like 2-5 years later is bring the original receipt in, with the TV and you’ll get a replacement. (this is what the dude told me… did he lie to me?)

No warranty needed. No service plan - extra payment (even tho they offered it to me).

So, looks like Sam’s Club is aware of the problem of “blackscreens” and has a good solution. Just don’t lose your original receipt.

Now, how do you outsource getting rid of your old broken, useless HDTV?

You sell it on Craigslist!

So, wife says to me… “Jeff, that old TV better not sit around here for more than two weeks… or else!”

So, with the fear of God in me, I go to craigslist, and I post the broken TV for sale.

$150 - you pick it up.

4 phone calls later, a dude from Maple Grove comes over, picks it up and it’s gone. He knows it is broken, but thinks he can figure out how to fix it. Not a problem, I hope he can. But even better… tv is gone in 4 days, two week window schmimdow!

So, now I got a nice Phillips 50 inch Plasma, which looks awesome where my 37 inch used to be. Cost me 50% less with the rebate check from CompUSA.

My Apple TV looks simply awesome, especially watching their HD Movies too.

Morale of the story: Becareful which HDTV you buy - Check many of the consumer reviews from people who bought it before you buy yours. Also… if you can, PURCHASE the extended warranty or buy it from Sam’s or Walmart and make sure they have a return/replacement policy ready, as these TV’s do not last forever like the older ones did.

Some people hate the biz opp market.

Why?

They don’t like the percentages.

Which percentages?

The ones that honestly say… 90-98% of people who begin a home based business will fail, while 2%-10% will make it.

Because the failures are so high and the successes are so low… “WHY BOTHER TRYING?” Is what most people think. They think we home based guru’s are scamming people cause we know the #’s and we take people’s money, knowing that they will fail.

And… it’s true too. (the scamming part is not true here, but there are scammers out there, but I know 100% of the people who join me will not be 100% successful.)

I know everyone who pays for my courses, takes my classes, and applies my teachings will not get rich. I know it. I tell it to their faces. But I don’t know who those people are. Everyone has the same equal chance of success and failure and each person makes a choice which side of the % they want to be… a 90%er or a 10%er.

So, again… why bother trying? Seems like a legit question to ask. But, I believe this is what I have called….

“THE LAW OF BEING HUMAN”

You need to completely understand my law of being human. Some call it the Pareto Principle.  Here is what the wiki says is the Pareto Principle:

“The Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule, the law of the vital few and the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, 80% of the effects comes from 20% of the causes. Business management thinker Joseph M. Juran suggested the principle and named it after Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who observed that 80% of income in Italy went to 20% of the population. It is a common rule of thumb in business; e.g., “80% of your sales comes from 20% of your clients.”

It is worthy of note that some applications of the Pareto principle appeal to a pseudo-scientific “law of nature” to bolster non-quantifiable or non-verifiable assertions that are “painted with a broad brush”. The fact that hedges such as the 90/10, 70/30, and 95/5 “rules” exist is sufficient evidence of the non-exactness of the Pareto principle. On the other hand, there is adequate evidence that “clumping” of factors does occur in most phenomena.”

The law of being human is similar in ideals to the Pareto Principle, but its not entirely the same really.

Look at a typical school classroom. If you were take an average subject like English or Algebra, not all students in the class get “A’s.”

As a matter of fact, few get an A. Most get B’s and C’s and the rest get D’s and a couple F’s. Look at any teacher’s grade book, and you’ll see the #’s are pretty much true and in rare cases (classes full of mensa students), you see the grades flux to more in the A and B level.

The law of being human means, “few will… Most wont.”

Did you know human beings are totally predicatble?

I know that if I call 10 people and invite them to a confernce call, 2-3 will show up. 7-8 will make an excuse or brush it off.

I know if I ask 4 people to visit my site and that I’ll call them back in 20 minutes to answer their questions, that 2-3 will have suddenly been abducted by Aliens and will not be there at the phone anymore.

I know that I might have to call 100 leads to make 1-5 sales for my business.

These are some of the LAW OF NUMBERS + the LAW OF BEING HUMAN in action.

Humans will fail and let you down. Systems won’t.

There is only a few different personality types out there. And human behavior, when studied over time, will show how predicatable and habitual we are. It’s not a bad thing actually that it ends up being this way, but for the most part, people are going to have big dreams and goals, but never get around to them. 90% of the population is this way!

But then there are the 10%’ers who are implementers, world changers, systemizers, doers, and success jiggernauts who stop at nothing to make their dreams a reality.

Dani Johnson thinks there are 4 personality types that people fall into. They are Saphire, Ruby, Emerald, and Pearls. Go to her seminar to learn what they mean. Basically… the Party Person, the Leader, the Follower and the Analyser. It’s the same as the Otter, Golden Retriever, Lion, Beaver, or some Myers-Briggs test you might take.

But Dani, who was a broke cocktail waitress, living in a car in Hawaii with $35,000 in debt, sure has made a name for herself. And some big bucks now, along the way. Man… is she on a roll right now, being featured like never before on national television. God is blessing her and opening doors for her in amazing ways.

At a recent conference, she told the audience…”Do you know what the success rate of Medical School is? 10%. Not everyone who wants to be a doctor makes it. Most won’t. But do you think the Med School University doesn’t know that? Of course they know that. That is why they NEVER STOP RECRUITING. They are constantly looking for the best of the best, the 10% who can CUT IT (forgive the pun) and actually become great doctors.”

Towards the end of the year, colleges send out their recuiters to try to find the 10%ers in other schools. They want the best of the best to attend their school. They recuit them. But only a few make the grades and get the jobs.

And, it’s no different with us in the biz opp or home based business market. I’ll never stop looking or recruiting cause I know there are 10%ers out there. I won’t know them when I see them, I don’t know which ones are the best at first contact, but I’ll know them after a few months or weeks by their work effort and by what their results are or by what their results aren’t.

I know what it’s like to be poor and broke. Youth Pastors don’t get paid much. Pastors for that matter don’t get paid much. I have tons of product on my sagging shelves with shrink wrap around them, unopened. Bought with good intentions, but the intentions never motivate me enough to crack the cellophane and pop the disc in the drive to get MORE education.

So, I have been there, I know what it is like to be on the 90% failure side. I was one of those people for 4 years from 1999 to 2003, where I tried and failed at just about everything I did.

I know what it is like to have massive debt and feel the pressures of the world and need to pull through with a solution.

Having a mentor and coach is the single most imporant factor in what % you’ll end up in.

Having a great coach and mentor will give you a better chance at being a 2-10%er.

But it does not at all guarantee it. I could get the best coaching in the world, but if I don’t practice, play and work at my own skill development and knowledge attainment… I’ll resort to the law of being human and give up soon, way too soon, and never give it a good enough effort to even try hard.

Most people quit too soon. Have you ever read this story from Think and Grow Rich?

3 Feet Short of Gold

One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. Every person is guilty of this mistake at one time or another.An uncle of R.U. Darby was caught by the “gold fever” in the gold-rush days, and went west to DIG AND GROW RICH. He had never heard that more gold has been mined from the brains of men than has ever been taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel. The going was hard, but his lust for gold was definite.After weeks of labor, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to the surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, told his relatives and a few neighbors of the “strike.” They got together money for the needed machinery, had it shipped. The uncle and Darby went back to work the mine.The first car of ore was mined, and shipped to a smelter. The returns proved they had one of the richest mines in Colorado! A few more cars of that ore would clear the debts. Then would come the big killing in profits.

Down went the drills! Up went the hopes of Darby and Uncle! Then something happened! The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there! They drilled on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again-all to no avail.

Finally, they decided to QUIT.

They sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home.

Some “junk” men are dumb, but not this one!

He called in a mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little calculating. The engineer advised that the project had failed, because the owners were not familiar with “fault lines.” His calculations showed that the vein would be found JUST THREE FEET FROM WHERE THE DARBYS HAD STOPPED DRILLING! That is exactly where it was found!The” Junk” man took millions of dollars in ore from the mine, because he knew enough to seek expert counsel before giving up.Most of the money which went into the machinery was procured through the efforts of R.U.Darby, who was then a very young man. The money came from his relatives and neighbors, because of their faith in him. He paid back every dollar of it, although he was years in doing so.

Long afterward, Mr. Darby recouped his loss many times over, when he made the discovery that DESIRE can be transmuted into gold. The discovery came after he went into the business of selling life insurance.

Remembering that he lost a huge fortune, because he STOPPED three feet from gold, Darby profited by the experience in his chosen work, by the simple method of saying to himself, “I stopped three feet from gold, but I will never stop because men say ‘no’ when I ask them to buy insurance.”

Darby is one of a small group of fewer than fifty men who sell more than a million dollars in life insurance annually. He owes his “stickability” to the lesson he learned from his “quitability” in the gold mining business.

Before success comes in any man’s life, he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat, and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to QUIT . That is exactly what the majority of men do.

Failure is a trickster with a keen sense of irony and cunning. It takes great delight in tripping one when success is almost within reach.

So.. now that I have been totally transparent, the question I have for the reader is this.

“What % are you?”

“do you have what it takes to be a 10%er?”

Prove it.

Take a risk, try something new, click on one of my links and go check out some of the programs I love using and helping people learn about. Be the man, Be the woman. Get up off your keister and make something of your life.

Don’t stop 3 feet from gold.

Success is there and yours for the taking, just do it.

One last principle. The Principle of Least Effort.

“The principle of least effort is a theory of user behavior held among researchers in the field of library and information science. The principle states that an information-seeking client will tend to use the most convenient search method, in the least exacting mode available. Information-seeking behavior stops as soon as minimally acceptable results are found.”

Unfortunately… people do this in business they stop quick once they think they “got it all figured out.”

My philosophy has always been “do more than anyone else in your niche.”

Make more videos. Make more press releases. Make more blog entries, make more calls, make more links, make more websites, make so much…. that you are the preceived expert… the guru. Don’t settle for minimally acceptable work ethic. Do it all to the glory of God.

I am looking for the 10%’ers.

I am looking for the 4 ACES in the card deck. I don’t want to work with the 48 other cards.

I want to attract the best to be the best.

Home based businesses are NOT for everyone they are for a few.

Yet, some people with the dream of entrepreneurship will gladly get up at 5:00 am, shave, shower, put on a suit and tie and go make someone else rich with their time and be highly underpaid cause it’s easy and does not involve risk.

Then those same “entrepreneurs” start a business and they work it hard for ….. 3 weeks… and all the sudden, the fire is gone. They cannot do the things for themselves that they were happy to do for the boss who hired them as an employee… What give? Why the midset shift and selfsabotage?

What will that shift be in your life to put you in position to be in the right place, at the right time?

Now… I am curious to know what you think… am I full of crap? (”Sturgen’s Law”)

Sorry, I am a little late getting this
out today… so if you have been waiting for it, I apologize
for my tardiness.

I have got some good new and bad news.. stay with me, I’ll
explain below once I get through with a small rant… You’ll
have to read all this below to get to the deal at the bottom.

I keep staying up too late… and just didn’t get this out
until now.

purchase… Wheeee!

Oh, and a one time YEARLY maintenance fee of $1295 that is sure to
go up each year on top of all that…

Yep, they were all there, at these little sales tables with
their laptop computers showing people the #’s and they were
shaking their heads in agreement like… well… like…

Here is the list. These definitely work.

1. Use a 24 hr message on your rear car window with a sticker, make it big:

“Tired of Living Paycheck to Paycheck? Want more Money and Time Freedom Now?” (24 hr. Rec Msg) Call 888-888-8888 (use your cell phone)

2.  Use HotCards - Business Cards with 24 Hour Msg phone # on them. Say to someone who you strike up a conversation with, “I don’t know if this is for you or if you know anyone looking for some extra income, but if you know someone, just give them this card and have them call the recorded message on back. It might also be something you are interested in hearing about as well.”

Give them to waiters, waitresses, sports games, in line at a gas station, supermarket, ATM machines, airports, etc…

3. Warm Market: People you know - Call them up, say this: “Hey mom, I know you were telling me money is tight right now and you are looking for some extra cash… do me  a favor, I think I found a solution for people in the same situation as you, call it and tell me what you think. Grab a pen, here is the #….”

4. Use email signatures in your emails and autoresponders. I always include lines in my emails to get people to optin to my lists with my email signatures. “Click here to see the new house I just bought.” On that page have a picture and an explanation for how your business was able to build that home…buy you a new car… pay for your vacation, etc…

5. Online Advertising: Use the video hosting sites. Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe, Revver, these sites are free to submit user generated content to. Also join many social media sharing sites, and social sites like myspace, facebook, linkedin and more social sharing sites… there are ton of these out there.

6. Free Newspapers - There are still some free or next to free newspapers out there. Put in a 3 or 4 line ad that sends people to a free recorded message line where you collect their info if they are interested.

7. Meet Up Groups: Meetup.com is a great site for finding people who are into the same interests as you are. The types of groups out there are limitless. There are just an incredible amount of business or social group which you can get leads from for your business and share referrals.

The best ideas are here, but unless you do something… nothing is going to happen. So, take 1-2 ideas for now and do something with it immediately. Don’t wait for success to come to you. Don’t wait for God to open doors… kick em open yourself and walk in. If God says no, he’ll shut the door for you, but you need to be someone who takes action and implements good ideas.
